It does have the safety you are looking for. If you are a heavy lifter my suggestion is going with the SCB as it is a little more substantial. Either one of these machines are excellent pieces that I would personally use.

The Series 7 Smith Machine. Set to a 7-degree reversed pitch, the Series 7 allows natural upper and lower body movements for maximum muscle interaction; a feature not found in the traditional Smith Machine. User safety is provided by 20 cross-member lock-out points that are accessible with a simple 15-degree rotation of the bar, eliminating the need for a spotter. For those exercises that demand freeweight movement, the 14-position gunrack with 17″ extra heavy-duty safeties is also set to a 7-degree reversed pitch providing convenient lift-off points and predictable racking.
Answer #1 on March 6, 2015[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Of what guage steel is the frame constructed? 11? 12? Other?” style=”arrow”]This machine is heavy-duty with all-4-side welded with 11 gauge and 12 gauge 2″x3″ mainframe steel construction with a safe, solid 4-point stance for maximum stability.
Answer #1 on March 9, 2022[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Please tell me the size (length, width, height) of the products after packing, the number after packing and the weight after packing.” style=”arrow”]It came via UPS in about 3 or 4 boxes. 8 feet long and just under 200 lbs. It was on a pallet and they will charge extra to move it anywhere. Normally they will just leave the pallet in your drive way. You can take it apart from the pallet and move it inside but just be aware.
Answer #1 on April 16, 2018[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What is the weight capacity?” style=”arrow”]At least 400 lbs. That’s what came w machine when I bought it.
Answer #1 on February 18, 2017

I’ve used 365 lbs so far, still smooth could use more.
Answer #2 on February 18, 2017[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Anyone else find this machine loud? Maybe I just need to lube it differently?” style=”arrow”]Mine gets loud when it is not properly balanced or the tube stoppers at the top or bottom come loose. If they are in place, it is very smooth and quiet.
Answer #1 on November 14, 2016[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”This machine looks amazing, does the smith bar stay even under load like a gym machine or does it wobble?” style=”arrow”]This piece is a Commercial item that we put in gyms all the time. It’s built tough! The bar does not “wobble” under load – even max load. It’s smooth and quiet riding up and down the guide rods. This is Linear Bearing Smith like you find in the clubs, thus you will have no additional movement of the bar like a lower end machine.
Answer #1 on September 18, 2014[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What type of weights can be used? Standard or Olympic style or both?” style=”arrow”]The GS348Q uses only Olympic style plates.
Answer #1 on August 10, 2017[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Is this machine counter balanced?” style=”arrow”]Yes, In today’s standards it is a counter balanced smith machine and the lift off weight is 25lbs. I hope this helps.
Answer #1 on March 3, 2015[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Does this set include the weight plates as well?” style=”arrow”]No, the weights need to be purchased separately.
Answer #1 on April 23, 2015[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Is it 66 in with the bar or does the bar stick out more?” style=”arrow”]It is 70″ bar end to bar end
Answer #1 on January 21, 2015[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How often is a lube needed on the leaner bar using light weight always on bar due to disability?” style=”arrow”]I would just hit the guide rod with 100% silicone spray once every 3 months.
Answer #1 on March 14, 2022[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Can I do hip thrust on this machine?” style=”arrow”]Yes
Answer #1 on August 11, 2021[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Can you get a pullup bar mounted on the front as an option? Can you get 24 inch safety arms?” style=”arrow”]Unfortunately there is not a pull-up bar option. The optional Selectorized Lat Attachment for the GS348Q mounts in this area. This machine comes with 17″ safety arms and does not have an option for longer safety arms.
Answer #1 on September 22, 2014[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Can this machine be used for free weight squats and bench press?” style=”arrow”]Yes! lock smith bar up top and use anterior rack mounts to do anything with a free olympic bar
Answer #1 on January 25, 2017[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”I’m 6’2“. Will I be able to do calf raises with a block on this?” style=”arrow”]Yes sir you can, I’m 6’4″ and its no problem. This is a really good machine, it’s got the 7 degree backward angle which works good for squats or chest and shoulders. Great piece.
