However I’ve never found that to be a negative.

It is extremely smooth. You can only change resistance slighty by the amount of water you put in it, so it isn’t adjustable like some machines. We love ours, it is pert!

Low pile is preferable, as the cord that attaches to the handle attaches to a bungee cord on the underside. There are built in risers but they only give a bit of clearance. WaterRower Club sells separately risers that give more clearance off the floor. With these even high pile carpet should be no problem.
